President Stroger's 2010 Vision:

  • Provide cost-effective, efficient, responsive service in the areas of public health and public safety.
  • Expanding diversity in workforce.
  • Consolidation through technology.
  • Support programs and initiatives to reduce incarceration rates through diversionary programs, work release and electronic home monitoring system.
  • Aggressively pursue programs that promote economic development throughout Cook County.
  • Continue to hold the line on county property tax levy.
  • Support new programs that improve and protect the quality of life for all residents of Cook County.

President Stroger's Accomplishments:

  • Passed four $3.3 billion dollar balanced budgets.
  • Closed a $500 million budget deficit in his first 100 days without raising taxes or fees.
  • Closed a $230 million budget deficit in his 2nd term.
  • Improved county's bond rating to "AA" which is the best in 25 years.
  • Streamlined the county's workforce by 12 percent.
  • Helped more than 25,000 families in Cook County avoid foreclosure by establishing a partnership with NACA, The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America.
  • Reduced county's utility costs by 8 percent.
  • Implemented "green" initiatives; (i.e. installed energy efficient lighting in 14,000 million square feet of office space; LEED certification on county buildings; established a partnership with pharmaceutical companies to collect medicines and medical waste which has resulted in the collection of over six tons of waste that would have ended up in water supply or landfills; used recycled tires for road resurfacing across the county instead of tires ending up in landfills).
  • Hired more women and Latino candidates in high-level positions than any prior administration in the County's 178 year history. Out of the 26 departments in his administration, 16 are headed by women.
  • Consolidated hospitals and clinics to reduce costs while maintaining effective healthcare options for the residents of Cook County.
  • Implemented a new program at Stroger Hospital where there is NO wait for children in the emergency room.
  • President Stroger's administration has exceeded his goal of working with more minorities and disadvantaged business. Thirty five percent of contracts have been awarded to minority business enterprises and ten percent of contracts have been awarded to women owned businesses.
  • Fought tirelessly to maintain the necessary resources to provide a first class health delivery for the residents of Cook County.
